Michael Galatas Signs with the New Orleans Saints

Former Major Michael Galatas signed with the New Orleans Saints yesterday. It didn't take long for the speedster to get picked up, signing on the first day free agents were available to sign. Galatas impressed scouts with his exceptional speed and quickness. He should get a chance to work on special teams for the Saints as a kick off and punt returner to go along with his receiving duties. We couldn't be happier for Galatas, who is from Lacombe, Louisiana. Congratulations Michael and good luck with the Saints!!!

Semmes White Chooses Millsaps

NATCHEZ — Cathedral School senior Semmes White said he always loved football, so getting to play at the next level is a big deal for him.

To make things even better, White was offered chance to continue in his brothers’ footsteps by playing at Millsaps College.

White officially signed with Millsaps Friday morning at Cathedral. Since Millsaps doesn’t offer athletic scholarships, White was given an academic scholarship after tallying a 4.16 GPA in his four years of high school and scoring a 28 on the ACT.

“Millsaps was always my first choice,” White said. “My oldest brother Cap played there for four years, and my other brother Jeb will be a junior for them this year.”

White said the Millsaps coaches like him at strong safety because of his tackling ability.

“From looking at my film, they said I was a strong tackler, and they need aggressive tacklers (at the position),” White said.

White said he plans on majoring in civil engineering, but since the school doesn’t offer an engineering program, he’ll go on a four-two plan.

“That’s where I’ll major in physics or math (for undergrad) and then go for two years of graduate school in the engineering field I decide,” White said.

With Millsaps being approximately two hours away from Natchez, White said being close to home was an added bonus.

“I had a school in Tennessee talk to me about playing for them, but I never wanted to go far off,” White said. “I wanted to stay in Mississippi as I got older.”

Galatas Works Out for the NY Jets

Senior Wide Receiver Michael Galatas worked out for the New York Jets today at Harper Davis field. The Majors speedster caught the eyes of scouts with his exceptional career as a receiver and punt returner. Galatas also recently ran a sub 4.3 second 40 yard dash. Jets Assistant General Manager Scott Cohen was on campus to personally work out Galatas.
After his workout Galatas expressed his excitement to play at the next level, "Right now I can’t really describe how happy I am for this opportunity. The main thing is to keep practicing and training like I have been. I know what they are looking for, so I need to work on technique and make the most of this opportunity."
Galatas also described the valuable experience he gained while at Millsaps, "Playing at Millsaps since it is a D3 school if I had gone anywhere else I would have been a redshirt my first year. But playing at Millsaps gave me the opportunity to get on the field and learn more about the game and the defenses. It got me ready in terms of experience."

We are extremely proud of Michael and everything he accomplished at Millsaps, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for him at the professional level.

Championship Week 2011

We have just wrapped up Championship Week for 2011. The coaches split up the Majors into two teams and the teams competed throughout the entire week in many events. Many of our normal drills were converted into events such as an obstacle course and relay races. But in every competition someone has to win and lose. Team Wise Guys took home the honors this week with a great peformance. Team Purple Haze fell just short but had a great comeback effort on the last day. It came down to the final competition, a Tug of War challenge but Team Wise Guys held on to preserve the victory.

We could not be happier with our guys performances this week. Every one of them showed up each morning ready to work and compete as a team. We got a lot better as a team this week and are excited to get Spring Practices underway once the players get back from spring break.
